Bruce Lee question?

i have question. u know in some of hes movies (like in that one with chuck norris,way of the dragon), when he has around hes ankle(toothpick looking) things.they r wodden i think, and he trows them, and hits in a leg someone...my question is did he really knew how to do that, shot them accouratly,and does that sort of things even exist as a part of some martial arts weapons.what r they called ,what r they made of.....
