What do you think about this American History question?

Your arguement that its not a war about slavery is a little wrong imo. You are correct in saying that the North wasnt being the noble hero coming to the aid of blacks. You can reword it by saying it wasnt a war based on morals. More like ideals & economics. Think about all the money being made...& no payroll. And the politicians pulled on peoples heartstrings to get them to support the war by "freeing the poor slaves". Hey, I dont care what their reasons were, a good thing was done. The ends justifies the means right? The North didnt want the South to have slaves cuz it seemed like an unfair business advantage & wouldnt let them secede cuz the cotton industry was big money...the biggest. So, the rebel flag was a symbol of the Souths defiance. Partr of that defiance included the feeling that they deserved to keep slaves & that blacks werent really people. So you can say, its not racist, Im just remembering my ancestors & honoring their war sacrifices, but really, youre honoring their effort to enslave a race right along with it. Youre really kidding yourself if you dont see that. Picture a German kid in your cl wearing a swastika on his sleeve or shirt. He says, "Im not a racist towards Jews. And I'm not a Nazi. I'm just wearing it in rememberanceof my grandfather who fought in WWII." Thats pretty much the same arguement & its absurd. Now on the flip side of all of this....there is a freedom of speech thing I hear about alot thats in the constitution. So you can say & do anything you want. I dont care. Offend as many people as you want, thats their problem if theyre offended by your heritage not yours.
