When can I work after being diagnosed as bipolar with OCD?

I am a high functioning professional type of person and my job takes everything I had prior to being diagnosed. I am not working at the moment (pretty sure being bipolar & OCD did effect my performance). I will start my new mood stabilizing drug (Depakote) today. I was told I couldn't work "for a while" by my psychiatrist but I feel even more depressed than normal not having something to do. There is a great job for me right now and I was told I could apply but I needed to be prepared if I wasn't ready to work not to take it, depending on the time frame. The OCD is basically a very unique type of perfectionism where being orderly somehow takes precedence over the job I'm supposed to do. When I get stressed or moody, I find the OCD kicks in.
